Explanation 用語の説明

☆Definition:the rate of people who can read and write

   開発途上国の識字率 (literacy rate) は低く,  十分な読み書きが出来ない (illiterate)15

   才以上の人は世界に7億人いると言われている。(UNICEF子供白書)。SDG4が掲

   げいる target 4.1.1は, literacy (読み書き力/識字力)を, numeracy(計算能力)と

   共に2030年までに子どもも若者も男女の区別なく大多数の人に身に付けてほしい   

 a minimum proficiency(=基本的能力)としている。

Example 用例

In many countries more than 95% have basic literacy skills.  Literacy of the majority of the population is a modern achievement. Globally,  however, large inequalities remain, notably between sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the world. In Burkina Faso, Niger and South Sudan – the African countries at the bottom of the rank – literacy rates are still below 30%.

・Youth literacy rates, for the population aged 15 to 24 years, are generally higher than adult literacy rates, reflecting increased access to schooling among younger generations. Nevertheless, youth literacy rates remain low in several countries, most of them in
sub-Saharan Africa, which suggests problems with low access to schooling, early school leaving or a poor quality of education. *出典:
